Chelsea have announced that midfielder Connor Gallagher has secured a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace.

Gallagher who was previously on loan at West Brom last term made 32 appearances and scored two goals for them. Prior to that, he was also sent on loan to Charlton Athletic and Swansea City in the Championship capping 77 times at the senior level in the last two years.

The 21-year-old is expected to link up with his former Chelsea Academy team-mate, Marc Guehi, who signed for the Eagles earlier this month on a permanent basis.

Both players are expected to impress the new boss and former Arsenal Player, Patrick Vieira if they are to secure a place in the squad.

The England International has consistently been on the rise at Chelsea through the Academy winning a number of Trophies with the U-18 team since the age of eight.

Before winning the Academy Player of the year, he started his professional football as a teenager and impressed at the Valley throughout the six months of stay, missing just a game in the Championship and scoring six goals.

After his loan at Charlton Athletic, he moved to promotion-chasing Swansea where he joined his fellow countryman, Guehi.

As a result of the success and performances displayed by the 21-year-old in the second tier, he made a Premier League move last summer to West Brom.

Despite the fact that the Baggie’s struggled throughout the season under the leadership of Slaven Billic and then Sam Allardyce, he was a regular starter in midfield. He also managed to win the club’s Young Player of the year award.

Ahead of the Premier League new season, Gallagher returned to train with the rest of the Chelsea team. He was part of the team that trashed Peterborough United 6-1 and also defeated Bournemouth.

However, it appears he’s surplus to requirements at the Bridge due to the number of star players available to Thomas Tuchel. This has prompted the decision to send him out on loan to Selhurst Park.

Gallagher will not be eligible to play for Crystal Palace when Chelsea welcome them on the opening day of the Premier League season at Stamford Bridge.

They will be looking forward to building on last season’s performance after finishing 14th. Vieira has been very active in the transfer window, securing a number of young signings like Michael Olise, Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen.
