Arsenal Sign Ben White From Brighton For £50m

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Brighton defender Ben White for a reported fee of around £50m.

The Gunners finally capture the signature of the centre-back after having two bids were initially turned down.

According to reports, a £40m bid was rejected while an improved offer of £47m was also knocked back before Brighton agreed to the £50m fee.

White made 36 appearances in the Premier League for Brighton last season, helping them avoid relegation from the top-flight.

The 23-year-old joined the Seagulls in 2014 from Southampton, going on to make 41 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The defender is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer transfer window having previously signing Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga from Benfica and Anderlecht respectively.

Speaking about his latest acquisition, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “Ben was a top target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing.

“Ben has been educated with two very good clubs, Brighton and Leeds, in recent seasons. He has benefitted well from two very good coaching set-ups and has shown with both Brighton and on loan with Leeds what a strong talent he is.

“Ben is an intelligent defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style fits perfectly with us. And of course, he is still young, so his age and profile fits with what we are building here.

“We are all looking forward to Ben being central to our future long-term plans.”

Ben will wear the No. 4 shirt and will immediately join up with his new teammates ahead of Sunday’s friendly match at home to Chelsea.
