Marcus Bettinelli whose contract expired at Fulham has secured a move to Stamford Bridge. Following the departure of Willy Caballero, he’s expected to strengthen the goalkeeping department at Chelsea.
Bettinelli made 120 appearances for Fulham and also represented England at the U-21 level. The 6ft goalkeeper is expected to serve as the third-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea.
Bettinelli started his playing career at Fulham and progressed through the ranks at Craven Cottage. He made his debut for the club in the 2014/15 season when they were relegated to Championship the previous season.
Before making his debut for Fulham, he was sent out on loan to Dartford and subsequently to League Two side, Accrington Stanley which gave him a plethora of experience to play at the senior level. He also won the Young Player of the Year at Crown Ground.
Bettinelli however, kept improving and was eventually rewarded when he successfully established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Fulham following the departure of David Stockdale in 2014.
He went on to make 45 appearances for the club and because of his superb performance, he was called up to the England U-21 team.

Bettinelli spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Middlesbrough, keeping 13 clean sheets in 42 appearances for his team that finished 10th on the log.
On signing for the Blues the 29-year-old said;
“It’s always been a special club. I know the area very well so it’s been a dream of mine to come over to this side and it’s finally happened. There were some talks a few years ago when I was a bit younger and for whatever reason that didn’t come about but I’m here now.
“I’m really excited to be involved and looking forward to trying to impress and help the team as much as I can.”
Following the calibre of goalkeepers like Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arizzabalaga at Chelsea, do you think Bettinelli has the pedigree to have any playing time at the Bridge? Let us know in the comments section.
