West Ham have signed French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan from Paris St-Germain.
The World Cup winner joins the Hammers on an initial loan with the option to make the deal permanent next season.
West Ham who qualified for the Europa league would want to provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
Areola was signed by PSG in 2010 where he played for the academy. He didn’t make his first team debut until 2013.
However, Areola has gradually fallen down the pecking order at the club with several loan spells to various clubs. His situation wasn’t helped as the French giants signed Gianluigi Donnarumma, another goalkeeper this transfer window.
Areola spent last season on loan at Fulham in the quest for first-team football. Although his team was relegated, the 28-year-old kept nine clean sheets in 36 appearances for Scott Parker’s side.

Speaking on his switch to the Hammers, the shot-stopper said the allure of the Premier League was one of the most prominent reasons he decided to join.
“The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world, so I really enjoyed it last season,” said Areola.
“London is a great place to live and to work as well. It was tough for me and for the team, but I enjoyed playing in the Premier League.
“West Ham did a big season last year. We have a really good squad. I watched games last season so I know the potential and the talent in this squad, so I can’t wait to start.”
West Ham manager David Moyes made his thoughts known about the signing: “Alphonse is an experienced and talented goalkeeper who has played at the highest level and performed very well in the Premier League last season.
“As we prepare for a very busy schedule, he will provide fantastic competition for the goalkeepers already at the football club and we are going to need to use our squad to ensure competition to the best of our abilities across all competitions.
“We have been aware of his qualities for a long time and we have no doubt he will be another player and character who will enhance our squad.”
