AS Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan stated that he ‘had other offers’ but decided to extend his contract with Roma despite previous differences with new boss Jose Mourinho.
The midfielder was set to be a free agent with his contract expiring this summer but chose to extend the deal. He claims he decided to remain in Rome despite offers from elsewhere.
Mkhitaryan and Mourinho worked together at Manchester United in the Premier League when the Portuguese brought him to Old Trafford in 2016.
Following Mourinho’s departure, the Armenian had been quite vocal and criticised his former boss’s style of play.
Fast forward a few years later, Mkhitaryan finds himself under the tutelage of the Special One once again but he has revealed that they have both cleared the air between them.
“Mourinho is very ambitious, he always wants to win. He doesn’t care if we play good or bad football, it’s all about the three points,” Mkhitaryan told Sky Sport Italia
“Everyone knows he has won almost everything there is to win.”

When quizzed about how awkward it must seem given his past comments about his former boss, he said their issues have been ironed out and they’ve decided to start over on a new slate.
“I don’t want to talk about the past, we discussed it together and started from scratch on a different level. I know what he asks of his players and I am ready to give my all.”
“I had some offers from Italy and abroad, but I chose to remain and I’m pleased with that.”
Mkhitaryan left Manchester United in 2018, swapping Old Trafford for the Emirates where he played for a year.
He later moved to Roma on an initial loan deal before making the move permanent in 2020.
Mourinho was appointed Roma boss barely a month after his sacking by Spurs earlier this year. He however did not resume full duty until the end of the season.
