Chelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper, Jamie Cumming has completed his loan move to English League One side Gillingham.
The move means that he will spend the 2021/22 season on loan to the League One side after spending last season on loan to League Two side, Stevenage where he performed superbly.
Despite his loan showing, it seems he’s nowhere near the hierarchy in the goalkeeping department at Chelsea considering Thomas Tuchel’s first choice, Edouard Mendy and second choice Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The 21-year-old Chelsea Academy graduate was quick to establish himself as the number one goalkeeper at Broadhall Way last season where he made 47 appearances and kept an impressive 18 clean sheets in the process.
With these appearances and clean sheets, he played a major part in the team’s defensive record, which made them the third-best defensive team in the division despite finishing 14th.
Before he was first sent out on loan, Cumming spent the 2019/20 season as a third-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea just behind Kepa Arizabalaga and Willy Caballero respectively, deputizing on five different occasions from the bench.

Prior to being the third-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea, he was also involved in the Chelsea youth team that won two FA Youth Cups.
He was also in goal for the Chelsea youth team during the spectacular penalty shoot-out in UEFA Youth League semi-final triumph over Porto in 2018.
Jamie Cumming, however, is expected to establish himself in a Gillingham side that finished just outside the playoffs last season.
Relishing the new season at his new club, Cumming will be hoping to start their first match of the new campaign against Lincoln City on Saturday 7, August.
