After a few domestic matches, the 2021/2022 Champions League tournament will begin. Europe’s top tier tournament is usually contested by European heavyweights.
Winning the Champions League is something that every player and club dreams of winning, however, only one club can win it. Let’s consider these European heavyweights who have the potential to lift Europe’s top tier tournament, the 2021/2022 Champions league.
Barcelona
The Spanish heavyweights have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window. They haven’t won the Champions League since 2015 and have developed a somewhat negative reputation of crashing out under embarrassing circumstances.
However, the return of President Joan Laporta who has pledged to take Barcelona back to the glory days and the recruitment of high profile players in Copa America winner, Aguero, Spanish defender, Eric Garcia and Netherlands forward, Memphis Depay has testified that Barcelona mean business this season.
If Barcelona can convince talisman, Lionel Messi, to sign a new contract with the club, Barcelona can dream of an attack similar to or even better than the glory days of MSN. When this happens maybe the Champions league can be raised in Camp Nou once again.
Real Madrid
Los Blancos’ Champions League pedigree is undeniable and unprecedented. They have won the most Champions League titles in history with a record of 13 titles.
However, last season’s semifinalists have not won the UCL since Portuguese skipper Cristiano Ronaldo swapped Madrid for Turin. Moreover, they possess a mostly ageing squad compared to their Champions League-winning squad.
Despite this, the return of former coach, Carlo Ancelotti who previously won the Champions League with Madrid, is certainly a boost. The Italian tactician is one of the most experienced coaches in the world and he can guide Madrid back to Champions League glory.
Paris Saint-Germain
Les Parisiens have also been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window. They have signed Achraf Hakimi, Euro Player of the tournament and Euro winner, Donnarumma, veteran Sergio Ramos and Netherlands midfielder Wijnaldum.
Add that to a squad already comprising of world-class players like Neymar, Mbappe, Icardi, Verratti, Marquinhos amongst others and you will find that the club’s board intends to win everything.
PSG have made it to the Champions League finals and semifinals in their last two seasons and they will be hoping for actual silverware next season.

Bayern Munich
The German champions won the Champions League before the current winners Chelsea. Bayern recently had a change in leadership with former RB Leipzig coach, Julian Nagelsmann moving to Bayern with French defender, Upamecano.
Nagelsmann guided Leipzig to the semifinals of the Champions League in their first season and he will be expected to go a step farther with a more experienced club like Bayern.
Chelsea
The Champions surprised many as they swept aside Atletico Madrid, Porto, Real Madrid and Premier League Champions Manchester City to win the Champions League.
Chelsea have been linked with some high profile forwards but it’s yet to be seen how they will fare under the continued guidance of German tactician, Thomas Tuchel.
If he plays his cards right, he may be able to retain the UCL trophy.
Juventus
The Serie A giants have not won the Champions League in a long time. They have exited the competition in the last two seasons at the Round of 16.
However, with the return of Maximilliano Allegri, maybe they can break the jinx. Allegri guided Juventus to two champions league finals over a five season spell, unfortunately losing both times to Spanish giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Manchester City
The Cityzens made it to the finals last season only to narrowly lose out to Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s men ertainly showed conviction in downing German heavyweights Dortmund and Mochengladbach along with Ligue 1 Giants PSG on their way to the finals.
However, with the tactical expertise of one of the best coaches in the world, Pep Guardiola, world class players and a seemingly unending financial arsenal, the finalists might just go a step further and clinch the title next season.
