Christian Pulisic had an incredible end to the 2020/21 season which guaranteed him two trophies for both club and country within a space of two weeks.
We are already into the fourth quarter of 2021, yet it has become a ‘red letter’ year for Christian Pulisic for helping his team win the Champions League and also helping his country win another silverware.
He was part of the team that defeated Manchester City by a lone goal to lift the prestigious trophy in Porto, helping his team add another Champions League title to their cabinet.
Pulisic came off the bench in the final in Porto on 29 May 2021. He admitted a few days ago that he is not used to his status as a European champion.
His victory at the club level coupled with his country’s triumph has not really hit him due to maybe he wasn’t really expecting it but admitted that it may take a few more time for it to really settle in;
‘The whole thing was kind of unreal,’ he explained. ‘I don’t know, winning it has never really fully hit me I don’t think. Maybe it will in more time. I think it will take me a couple of years for it to really sink in.’

He believes that with the success achieved so far, he and his teammates will have to go into the new season with lots of confidence that will make everyone hungry for more success.
‘It’s just a really proud moment in my career, to be involved in a success like that. I think a lot of the guys will go into this season nice and confident and that’s really important, and also everyone is hungry to win more which is the best thing you can have in the team. We all just want to keep on getting better.’
It was just the start for Pulisic after the Champions League glory. A few days after winning the title, he travelled to the United States where he met with his international teammates to compete in the CONCACAF Nations League.
Pilisic helped his country beat Honduras in the semi-final six days after the Champions League final. He then captained his team in the final against Mexico and scored the decisive goal in extra time to hand his team a 3-2 win in Colorado to complete his two trophies in 10 days.
‘The Champions League win was incredible and I really wanted to finish off the year strong. Then I went off with the national team and that was a really important win for us too, for the younger guys that we have.
‘It was almost a full stadium so it was really cool, with a really intense atmosphere so I really enjoyed it and it was a strong way to end the season.’
