In Focus: Norwich City Survival Chances In The Premier League

Championship winners Norwich City are returning to the Premier League after a season’s absence. The Canaries won the Championship in the 2018/19 season before being relegated in the 2019/20 season after losing 27 out of 38 matches.

They found life in the Premier League very tough winning just five matches and finishing 20th at the end of the season.

However, since then, the Canaries have won the 2020/21 Championship but this time they will certainly be looking to at least ensure they are not relegated again.

What can the Canaries do to ensure they stay up this time?

Signings

Norwich sold one of their most creative players in Emiliano Buendia for a club-record fee. However, they have gone to recruit the services of Chelsea academy product Billy Gilmour on loan as a replacement.

Buendia was very instrumental in Norwich’s Championship conquest and return to the Premier League. Norwich need to sign a few key players to mend lapses in their squad so they can at least, stay in the Premier League at the end of next season.

Consider a change of management

German tactician, Daniel Farke is the head coach of Norwich City. He guided Norwich to Championship glory in 2019 and 2021. However, after winning the Championship in 2019, Norwich had a poor season in 2020, finishing 20th on the log and winning only five matches.

He has won the Championship again and if Norwich should show signs of the negative trend that saw them finish last on the log, the club’s hierarchy should consider the hammer method and fire Farke as it would seem he has only Championship experience.

If Farke cannot deliver for the Canaries, the top dogs should exploit the idea of hiring a coach that will at least help them to escape relegation and keep them in England’s top flight for another season.

The Canaries certainly have a lot of work to do if they are to escape relegation. If they can perform better than they did in their most recent Championship-winning campaign, they can stay up.

Norwich will face; Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester, Arsenal, Watford and Everton in their first six games back in the top flight. How many points do you think they can get from these pictures? Leave a comment below.
