Chelsea Move To Replace Werner With Austrian Striker

Having grown tired of misfiring forward Timo Werner, Chelsea are currently eyeing Austrian striker, Sasa Kalajdzic, according to reports.

The Blues have grown frustrated with their current crop of attacking options and are more determined than ever to secure the services of a top striker this summer.

Chelsea have been consistently linked with a number of forwards including, Erling Haaland, Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and most recently, Robert Lewandowski, in a bid to consolidate and build on their Champions League victory.

However, it looks clear that the Blues may not be able to secure the services of either of the strikers listed. Hence, they are still in the market to search for other alternatives amongst which is Austria international, Sasa Kalajdzic.

According to reports from The Athletic, the Austrian international is on Thomas Tuchel’s radar following an outstanding EURO 2020 performance for his country.

‘Stuttgart, who haven’t been approached by Chelsea yet, will take a lot of persuading to cash in on the 24-year-old,’ the report read.

‘The German Bundesliga club have already raised £34 million in sales this summer, which was their target set before the market opened.’

The forward was pivotal for his Stuttgart side last season netting 17 goals and also secured 6 assists in 36 appearances for the club.

The frustration of Chelsea consistently searching for a striker is as a result of the misfiring Werner who hasn’t been able to live up to expectations at Stamford bridge.

Werner scored 11 goals in all competitions last season, a decent figure but an obvious step down to what he produced for his former club, RB Leipzig.

The German signed last season for Chelsea from RB Leipzig for a fee in the region of €53million. He scored 32 goals and provided 13 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga team.

Academy graduate Tammy Abraham has failed to impress Thomas Tuchel which has led to him being temporarily ousted from the team.

Werner and Abraham would have to step up their game in the new season if they are to earn a spot in Tuchel’s squad.
