New Napoli Boss Gushes Over Victor Osimhen, Warns Serie A Rivals

Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti couldn’t help but gush over and praise Super Eagles and former Wolfsburg striker Victor Osimhen.

Spalletti has lauded the qualities of the Napoli No. 9 liking Osimhen to attackers like Andrea Petagna and Dries Mertens.

Spalletti recently took over at the helm of the Serie A club after former manager Gennaro Gattuso left his role at the end of the season.

He revealed how impressed he has been with Osimhen and believes the Nigeria international would be an instrumental part of his side in the new campaign.

According to Soccernet, Spalletti said:

“I don’t see why we can’t do well with the current squad; Osimhen falls into this discourse.

“He attacks the depth; he has excellent qualities in the space. He knows how to score, helps the team, covers the spaces, and does not leave them to others. He is a strong one like Mertens, Petagna.”

Osimhen also received similar praise from former Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso who played a significant role in bringing the 22-year-old to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last season.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup winner and highest goalscorer played 27 league matches for Lille OSC, where he scored 13 goals in 27 games before moving to the Serie A outfit.

Osimhen had an unsuccessful spell with German side Wolfsburg where he made 14 appearances but did not manage to score.

He also played for Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League where he played 25 matches, scoring a total of 12 goals.

The Super Eagles forward has however struggled to justify his big-money transfer to Napoli largely due to injury and coronavirus related issues.

Victor Osimhen has 12 caps for the Super Eagles and has scored six goals. Could this year be his breakthrough year? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
