The stage is set for Italy vs England in the Euros Final at Wembley.
A match between these two European heavyweights is certain to keep eyes glued to the TVs, and fans cannot help but bite their nails in anxiety.
Players probably stay awake at night watching videos of their potential opponents while coaches drink coffee and ponder over selection headaches.
However, a clash between these two in the Euros final is a totally different ballgame. Let’s take a brief journey to explore where it could all be lost or won shall we?
European pedigree
Italy have the upper hand here. The Azzurri have a good European reputation compared to their counterparts although they’ve not been at their best in recent years.
However, they’ve since regrouped and been a benchmark for consistency. This has seen them remain unbeaten in 33 games spanning over two years.
Defense
England have certainly been the standout performers in this regard. Jordan Pickford is already guaranteed the golden glove having kept five clean sheets so far.
The Three Lions have only conceded once throughout the tournament and much of it is down to playing a 3-5-2 formation.
On the other hand, Italy’s defensive partnership of Bonucci and Chellini has shown that while teams may consider age when signing players, experience should also be sought for. Both teams have a solid defense and that could come in handy.
Midfield
The midfield of both teams comprises of technically gifted footballers. Jorginho has been a standout performer for the Azzurri along with the likes of Verratti and Barella.
Meanwhile, the Three Lions are indebted to Kalvin Philips and Declan Rice largely because of the defensive cover they have provided for the back line. A very technical midfield battle is expected.
Attack
Given how defensively solid both teams are, the difference could lie in attack. Lorenzo Insigne and Chiesa were instrumental in the Azurri’s win over Belgium, and England fans all over the world – especially around Wembley- sing the praises of Harry Kane, Sterling and Arsenal wonderkid, Bukayo Saka. Both teams also have an array of attacking options even on the bench, that could influence the game.
Back to the question on everyone’s mind; who will win Euro 2020? The answer is simple. The team that gives it their all and play with heart and passion.
We may not know who will win yet, but this much is certain, get your popcorn ready because it will be an entertaining game.
