Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in an interview with El Transistor has revealed a lot about his plans for the club, transfer targets and the ambitions of former manager Zinedine Zidane.
“Zidane dreams of being the French National Team’s coach. I’m sure he will achieve it,” Perez said.
He also opened the door to a potential return if the Frenchman ever decided to come back to the club.
“I still love Zidane. If he wants to return at Real Madrid one day, this is still his home.”
Perez also confirmed that Brazilian defender Marcelo is going to be the captain next season after the departure of Sergio Ramos.
Real Madrid never had the intention of selling Marcelo as per previous reports. He’s happy to stay and he’s considered a key player for Ancelotti’s team.
“Marcelo will be our captain next season. It’s difficult to find another left back like Marcelo. Him and Roberto Carlos have been the best in history,” Florentino said.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz will join AC Milan on loan with an option to buy. The Italian side have been impressed with him and are set extend his loan at least for another year.
Another subject of transfer speculation is Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane. Reports suggest that the Frenchman is looking for a new challenge and would be open to a move abroad with Manchester United interested.
However, Perez has confirmed that there has been no official bid for the defender. “We’ve not received any official bid for Raphael Varane. He’s at the Euros now then we will see what happens – if he wants to leave the club this summer, he’ll say it.”
Perez refused to be drawn to discuss a potential move for PSG forward Kylian Mbappe. “Mbappé is one of the best players in the world, of course. I know what the fans want and I don’t talk about other players, it’s not respectful… same for Erling Haaland, I’m not talking about them.”
Kylian Mbappé will not say anything about his future either in public or in private until after the EUROs. Real Madrid is very clear that everything is based on Mbappe’s resistance to the intention of the PSG leaders to renew his contract. The France international has one year left in his contract.
