Barcelona Women demolished Chelsea Women 4-0 to lift their first Women’s Champions League trophy on Sunday night.
After being on the wrong side of a huge defeat two years prior, Barca Femeni put on a masterclass performance against Chelsea to be crowned champions.
Chelsea were on the back foot from the beginning as Melanie Leupolz unintentionally looped the ball into her own net inside 33 seconds.
Leupolz was once again the villain as she was penalised minutes later for a foul on Jennifer Hermoso inside the area.
Barcelona Women captain Alexia Putellas buried the ensuing penalty to double Barcelona’s lead inside 12 minutes.
It only went from bad to worse for Chelsea as Aitana Bonmati and Caroline Graham Hansen both scored from close range to ensure the tie was put to bed early.

Chelsea were much improved in the second half having a string of half chances but couldn’t convert any.
Second-half substitute Asisat Oshoala grabbed a fifth goal for Barcelona in the closing stages but the goal was chalked off for offside.
It was perhaps redemption for Barcelona women as they secured their maiden Champions League title after the heartbreak against Lyon in 2019.
“Today was difficult because the game was over before it began,” Chelsea Women boss Emma Hayes told BT Sport after the match.
That is what is so difficult to reflect on. To concede so early, and then we had two good chances, then they got the second from a penalty.
“Ann hasn’t had a save to make the whole game, yet we’ve lost the game 4-0. The damage was done.
“I’m proud of the second-half performance. The players gave it everything. Congratulations to Barcelona, they are worthy winners and deserving of their title.
“We’re not quite European champions but we’re the second-best and I’ll take that as a step in the right direction.”
