There are many players on loan who have done well for their new clubs this season. From forgotten men to standout players, the change has been drastic.
A player’s season can be defined by his choices. Game time is one of the topmost priority of any professional player. Well, that and money for sure.
But what happens when you don’t get the game time you feel you deserve?
While some players would rather sit on the bench and get their wages, waiting for their time to come, some want more. So they leave their comfort zones to get opportunities elsewhere.
Hey, let’s be honest, some players are only good enough for the bench. They don’t play because other players play better than them right?
So maybe leaving on loan or permanently would be doing both parties a favour. But most importantly, it gives the player a chance to prove himself.
Some players on loan have taken the challenge to heart this season. They have excelled in their new clubs that it seems a shame to suggest they should return to their former clubs.
Without further ado, we bring you the best XI on loan this season:
Alphonse Areola (GK)
Eager for a chance outside of Real Madrid, the Frenchman was quick to jump at the opportunity with Fulham.
Despite his team being confirmed to have been relegated, the 28-year-old has put up some good appearances for his new side including nine clean sheets.
He was also nominated for the Best Goalkeeper in London Award which he lost to Lukasz Fabianski.
Fikayo Tomori (DF)
The young Chelsea defender has made 18 appearances for AC Milan since joining the Serie A side in January.
He was an integral part of the side’s scudetto pursuit although they lost out to city rivals Inter Milan and were knocked out of the Europa League by Manchester United.
Tomori was on the scoresheet as Milan humiliated Juventus at the Allianz stadium.
Matteo Darmian (DF)
On loan from Parma to Inter Milan, the former Manchester United player has been integral to Inter’s Scudetto win this season.
He has two assists and three goals in the Serie A, all of which were match winners.
Angelino (DF)
The left back is having quite the season at RB Leipzig after failing to break into Pep Guardiola’s star-studded Man City side.
The Spaniard has been a regular starter for the team and has been vital in their title push which they narrowly lost out to Bayern Munich.
Juan Foyth (df)
Having moved from Spurs in the summer, the defender is one of the players on loan who has impressed when called upon this season. He has been an integral signing to Villarreal under Unai Emery.
Foyth has a chance to win silverware when his side faces Man United in the Europa League final.
Jesse Lingard (MF)
Currently on loan at West Ham from Manchester United, J-Lingz can only be described as football’s undertaker.
He has literally reincarnated his career at West Ham having been sidelined at United. The Englishman made the six months loan switch in the winter transfer window in January.
Since then, he has garnered 12 goal contributions (nine goals and three assists) in as many games for his new side.
His form recently earned him a call-up for England in the World Cup qualifiers where he featured in all the games.
Lingard also notched the Premier League Player and goal of the month award for April.
Joe Willock (MF)
Having struggled to make an impact with the Gunners, Willock left Arsenal on a short-term loan in January, signing for Newcastle United. The 21-year-old has since made 12 appearances for the Magpies and has scored six goals.
Jack Harrison (MF)
The midfielder has been an ever-present for Leeds on loan from Manchester City. The 24-year-old has seven goals and six assists in the league for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
Federico Chiesa (MF)
Currently on a two-year loan from Fiorentina, the Italian has been a breath of fresh air for Juventus.
The 23-year-old has 20 goal contributions in all competitions for the Old Ladies; 12 goals and eight assists.
Moise Kean (FW)
The Italian is the subject of hot transfer gossip as he has had a great season on loan at PSG. Joining the French Champions in the summer from Everton, the 22-year-old has managed 18 goals and an assist in 39 appearances for the club.
Gareth Bale (FW)
After enduring the nightmare of ongoing injuries and fitness issues at Real Madrid, Bale seems to have got his groove back at Spurs.
Although not a regular starter under former boss Jose Mourinho, the Welshman has dazzled when called upon this season.
Including a hat-trick against Sheffield United, the 31-year-old has 14 goals and two assists for the London club.
