Juventus have been threatened with expulsion from the Serie A if they do not withdraw from the proposed European Super League.
The Italian side is part of 12 founding clubs who came about the initiative of the Super League.
However, due to backlash and criticism of the project from football bodies and fans, nine out of the 12 clubs bowed to pressure and renounced their participation.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have declined to abandon the project, reiterating that they strongly believe in it.
Last week, UEFA issued sanctions to the clubs which have renounced their participation. They also threatened to take severe actions against the clubs who have refused to withdraw.
The three clubs reiterated their commitment to the course of the Super League, stating that UEFA had no right to threaten them while the matter is at court.
On Monday, the Italian football federation (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina had his say on the issue.
“The rules are clear. If Juventus is still part of the Super League when it enters next season, it can’t participate in Serie A,” Gravina told Naples radio station Kiss Kiss.
“I would be sorry for the fans but rules are rules and they apply to everyone. I hope this holdout ends soon.”
Juventus have had a torrid campaign this season. Not only did they relinquish the title to Inter Milan, they are also on the cusp of not qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Currently fifth on the Serie A standings with 69 points and three games left, their chances look bleak after another loss at home to AC Milan on Sunday night.
They will look to their games against Sassuolo, Inter Milan and Bologna to somehow turn their fortunes around.
