Ajax secured the Eredivisie title once again after they thrashed Emmen 4-0 in Sunday’s home clash. The win gives them an unassailable lead over closest rivals PSV with three games to spare.
Sebastien Haller, Devyne Rensch, Jurrien Timber, and Davy Klaassen were all on the score sheet as Ajax overwhelmed their relegation-threatened visitors. The win put them at 79 points, 14 points ahead of PSV, having played 31 games.
Ajax have only lost twice all season. They also have the most wins (25), joint-fewest draws (4), most goals scored (93), and fewest goals conceded.
Last season’s Eredivisie was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic with no winner announced. Ajax were the winners of the season before that which effectively means they have retained their title.

The Amsterdam club have won the title in five of the last 10 seasons and 35 times overall. They are the most decorated side in Dutch football.
Despite fans not being allowed inside stadiums to watch games this season, supporters camped outside Ajax Johan Cruyff Arena setting off flares and waving flags as they celebrated the club’s Eredivisie title win.
“We were very solid throughout the season, we had a fairly high lower limit,” said manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman recently signed a contract extension with the club despite being heavily linked to the Tottenham job after Jose Mourinho was sacked.
“That’s why we lost very few matches. And we peaked at the right times. We also had the worst schedule,” he added.
When asked to rate the campaign out of 10, Ten Hag said, “It is very high. A 7.5 or an 8, I don’t know. It’s hard to say, I’ll leave that to you.”
